Documentary Film 'NEPADOC' to be Screened at CU-Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, PA (10/31/2023) — Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg will host a screening of the documentary film NEPADOC on Friday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall, room 218.

The screening will include a brief introduction before the film and a question and answer with director David Heineman, associate professor of communication studies at CU-Bloomsburg, and cinematographer Noam Maymon, a 2023 CU-Bloomsburg media and journalism graduate. The documentary is free and open to the public.

NEPADOC is a new feature-length documentary about intersections of environment, industry, and identity in Northeastern Pennsylvania over the past 300 years. Inspired by non-verbal documentary film landmarks such as Koyaanisqatsi and Baraka, NEPADOC blends 4K cinematography, local historical footage, and a sweeping score into a dizzying and contemplative meditation on culture, place, and public memory. The film was a main stage official selection at Black Bear Film Festival and is a Top Film Nominee of the National Communication Association.

Heineman's scholarship focuses on the intersection of rhetorical/critical theory and new media technologies. His work is found across multiple forms of media, such as film, books, podcasts, and scholarly journals, and more. He has served as an advisor to the Lambda Pi Eta Communication Studies National Honor Society.

Maymon's projects include commissioned work, documentaries, short films, and live productions. He was also president of the Bloomsburg National Broadcasting Society, where he directed large groups to create content and assisted with the projects of fellow students.

The screening is sponsored by the Center for Community Research and Consulting at CU-Bloomsburg.
