CU-Lock Haven alumnus and staff member offers career advice at 'Success in 60!' student networking event

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (01/07/2025) — Reed Mellinger, a 1985 graduate of Lock Haven University, now Commonwealth University-Lock Haven, embodies the spirit of giving back through his commitment to student success. As the Learning Center director at Stevenson Library and a full-time faculty member at CU-Lock Haven, Mellinger's dedication to education goes beyond his professional responsibilities to his active volunteerism at student engagement events like the recent "Success in 60!" speed networking event held at the Lock Haven campus last fall.

For Mellinger, volunteering is a natural extension of his deep connection to The Haven and his love for teaching. "I am committed to Lock Haven and the success of the students," he said. "I enjoy giving back. I'm a teacher at heart."

During "Success in 60!," Mellinger engaged with students and reinforced his belief in the importance of alumni support.

Along with his participation at campus events, Mellinger also supports Lock Haven students in alternative ways throughout the year. He is Lock Haven's scholarship advisor for the Alpha Chi Rho (AXP) fraternity and also serves as the AXP Phi Mu Chi Graduate Chapter Liaison for current students. Off campus, he is member of the Bald Eagle and Nittany Valleys Kiwanis Club - the sponsoring organization for Lock Haven's Circle K Club - and he is slated to become the Circle K student advisor.

Mellinger's relationship with Lock Haven spans decades. As a former Lock Haven University Alumni Association board member and past president, he played a key role in pivotal moments, including the establishment of the Durrwachter Alumni Conference Center.

Mellinger feels that volunteering not only enriches students' lives but also strengthens the bond between alumni and their alma mater.

Any Lock Haven alumni interested in volunteering their time and talents in support of student success can fill out the Center for Career and Professional Engagement's alumni volunteer survey to receive information on upcoming (in-person and virtual) student-engagement opportunities at Lock Haven, and across all four CU locations.
