Commonwealth University-Lock Haven holds spring commencement ceremonies

LOCK HAVEN, PA (05/16/2024) — Commonwealth University-Lock Haven celebrated the graduating Class of 2024 during the spring commencement ceremonies. Graduate students were celebrated on Thursday, May 9, at 6 p.m. in the Thomas Fieldhouse and undergraduate students were recognized on Saturday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at Hubert Jack Stadium. More than 500 members of the Class of 2024 received their degrees.

Graduate ceremony speakers included Dr. Diana Rogers-Adkinson, CU provost and senior vice president of academic affairs, welcomed the guests, followed by remarks from Dr. Bashar Hanna, president; and Angela Smith, Council of Trustees.

"Your character is what will guide you through life's journey. It will set you apart and make you successful in all aspects of your lives. Embrace the choices you make today, for they shape the person you become tomorrow," Hanna said.

Speakers at the undergraduate ceremony included Dr. Stephen Lee, vice president of enrollment management and campus administrator; Rogers-Adkinson; Smith; Dr. Don Calcagni, chief investment officer, Mercer Advisors; Loren Glossner, student government 2024 class president; and Amee Lewis Vance, alumna.

"Your education is the one thing no one can ever take away from you," Rogers-Adkinson said. "It will remain with you for life. And I urge you to nurture it, to grow it. Do not look at today as an ending, but the beginning of a lifelong pursuit of knowledge, wisdom and truth, which began at Commonwealth University."

"Our time at the Haven was nothing less than transformational. The Haven introduced us to the wider world, to unconventional ideas, and challenged us in new and interesting ways," Calcagni said about both his time at The Haven and his wife, Wendy's.

"My greatest hope for all of you is that you never stop learning, that you never stop working towards a better tomorrow, and, finally, that the Haven forever holds a special place in your hearts," Calcagni added.

"Today marks not only the culmination of years of hard work, sacrifice, and dedication, but also the beginning of a journey filled with its up and downs, but also the endless possibilities and opportunities," Glossner said.

"The most important lesson I have learned during my time here is that during the trials and tribulations, never lose sight of your dreams and aspirations," Glossner added. "Whether you aspire to be a doctor, engineer, artist, or teacher, NEVER underestimate the power of your dreams. Let them be the guiding light that illuminates your path and fuels your determination to succeed."
