BU Players to Stage 'The Astronots'

Bloomsburg, PA (10/31/2023) — The BU Players, one of the resident producers for Commonwealth University's Arts in Bloom, will produce The Astronots, a brand new play from Pittsburgh-based playwright Mora V. Harris, Nov. 2 through 5 at the Alvina Krause Theatre, 226 Center Street, in downtown Bloomsburg.

Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg theatre faculty member Prof. David A. Miller is directing the production.

Performances are Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 2 to 4, at 7:30 p.m. or Sunday, Nov. 5, at 3 p.m. Tickets are free for current BU Students with ID, $6 for Adults, and $4 for non-BU students and seniors. The play is not recommended for children. Advanced tickets at the Arts in Bloom Box Office in the Haas Center for the Arts (bloomu.universitytickets.com) or at the door one hour before curtain. The approximate run time of the show is 120 minutes, with one intermission.

In The Astronots, billionaire C.E.O. Alston Garth invites four lucky contest winners to ride with him on a quick scenic orbit around the Earth in an unmanned craft. When Alston reveals he has a larger adventure in store, the passengers are determined to reverse the ship's course before they languish away in a metallic tube full of strangers.

The Astronots was initially developed during the 2022 Plays in Bloom Residency, part of Plays in Bloom: A New Play Development Program at Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg (playsinbloom.org). For more information about the BU Players, visit buplayers.org.
