Haven Nation rolls up its sleeves to enhance campus through beatification effort

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (06/04/2026) — Throughout the academic year, Commonwealth University-Lock Haven faculty, staff and coaches dedicate themselves to supporting students through academics, scheduling, financial aid, housing, athletics and involvement opportunities. While much of that work happens in classrooms and offices, there are also moments when an impact can be made in a visual way.

On June 3, faculty, staff and coaches from across CU-Lock Haven came together for the campus' Beautification Day. Trading laptops and office supplies for gloves and gardening shears, employees spent the day working side-by-side to enhance the beauty of the campus. With the guidance and support of the CU facilities team, volunteers pulled weeds, removed dead trees and brush and refreshed landscaping.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Susquehanna River Valley in the PA Wilds, the Lock Haven campus offers students a truly special place to learn, grow and build community. Beautification Day is more than a day of landscaping and cleanup; it's an opportunity for faculty and staff to invest in the place their students call home and demonstrate the pride they have in their campus community.

"It was a proud day as the Lock Haven spirit of collaboration, community and pride permeated the day," said Dr. Stephen Lee, vice president for enrollment management and campus administrator. "A special thanks to our dedicated facilities team for their efforts in preparing for the day and for their hard work throughout the event, and to Krisy Meeker for her excellent work in organizing the day."

Some improvements were small, while others were much larger undertakings. The pergola in the heart of campus received a complete makeover, while areas including Ivy Lane, the amphitheater, Thomas Fieldhouse and Ulmer Hall were refreshed with weed removal, fresh mulch and flowers. Work was also completed in front of Fairview Suites, helping create a more welcoming and vibrant environment for students, employees and visitors.
