Tech innovator and distinguished alumnus, Glen Allison, returns to CU-Lock Haven for 2-day campus engagement
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (11/13/2025) — Commonwealth University-Lock Haven welcomed Glen Allison '94, accomplished technology executive, entrepreneur and former Lock Haven track and field standout, back to campus Nov. 6-7 for a series of programs focused on purpose, perseverance and professional success.
Allison - whose career includes leadership roles at AOL, Microsoft, Palm, Cameo and most notably as COO of Honey during its $4 billion acquisition by PayPal - served as keynote speaker for the Zeigler Institute of Professional Development (ZIPD) Conference on Nov. 7. His appearance capped a two-day visit that also included a campuswide presentation in Price Auditorium on Nov. 6 and special engagements with students and alumni.
During his Price Auditorium address, "Raising the Bar: Resilience, Purpose and Professional Success," Allison shared personal insights shaped by his Lock Haven experience, his rapid rise in the tech industry and the challenges of leading companies through high-growth environments. He emphasized themes of grit, leveling up, surrounding yourself with the right people and embracing fear as a path to confidence and capability.
"Lock Haven teaches you to figure things out on your own," Allison told the audience. "Grit isn't something you read about - you live it. That prepared me for every leap I ever took."
He encouraged students to focus on people over paychecks, to recognize that fear often reflects untapped confidence and to stay grounded in their values as they navigate career decisions. He also highlighted the importance of energy, mindset and adaptability in an era shaped by artificial intelligence. "Don't be afraid of AI - be afraid of not knowing how to use it," he said, noting that he has launched six businesses in recent months through AI-enabled workflows.
Allison also spoke openly about overcoming imposter syndrome, the value of state-school work ethic in building Honey's culture, his belief in paying it forward and the importance of remembering one's roots. "This place is part of my family," he said at CU-Lock Haven. "Legacy matters."
During his visit, Allison also met with the entire Lock Haven track and field team, gathering for a photo at the Glen Allison Family Track and Field Complex at Hubert Jack Stadium that is named in his honor. His visit reflects CU-Lock Haven's ongoing commitment to connecting students with successful alumni who inspire confidence, share real-world insight and demonstrate the lifelong strength of the Haven Family.
