Stevenson Library at Lock Haven to host exhibit: 'Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons'
Lock Haven, PA (09/05/2023) — The exhibit, "Opening Doors: Contemporary African American Academic Surgeons," will be held through Oct. 7 in Commonwealth University-Lock Haven's Stevenson Library lobby. An opening reception will be held on Thursday, Sept.7 at 4 p.m.
The exhibit chronicles early black pioneer physicians and contemporary academic surgeons who exemplify excellence in the health fields. The exhibit is co-sponsored by the Department of Health and Exercise Science; Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Stevenson Library and the National Library of Medicine.
"We hope students of color and others recognize the importance of pioneers in the black community as well as the need for new students to enter these growth professions," said Dr. Rick Schulze, professor, Department of Health and Exercise Science. "Lock Haven offers numerous health and exercise undergraduate and graduate programs as well as tracks in pre-medical, pre-veterinary and pre-dental. This exhibit offers students a glimpse into that world and we want students of color and others to be part of it."
