No tuition increase at Commonwealth University for 2024-25 academic year
LOCK HAVEN, PA (07/18/2024) — Commonwealth University students will not experience an increase in their tuition for the upcoming 2024-25 academic year. The Board of Governors for Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) voted unanimously to freeze tuition, keeping Commonwealth University one of the most affordable public higher education options in the state.
This is the seventh consecutive year the tuition rate will remain the same. The repeated freezes save students nearly 25% in tuition costs compared to the price if tuition had risen at the inflation rate for the last six years.
"We applaud PASSHE and the Board of Governors, along with Governor Shapiro and the state legislature for this historic decision, and the funding that has enabled it," said Bashar W. Hanna, CU president. "Affordability remains one of the top concerns for our students and their families. This historic tuition freeze will make it possible for more Pennsylvania students to earn an affordable degree that has the power to transform their lives."

"We are grateful for our continued partnership with the General Assembly and Governor Shapiro that makes this tuition freeze possible for an unprecedented seventh year in a row, and we continue to be excited for the future."
"PASSHE appreciates the governor and legislature for their strong support of our students and this investment in the State System," said Dan Greenstein, PASSHE chancellor. "Keeping tuition frozen for a seventh consecutive year will help more students get a college education and deliver on PASSHE's mission to provide a quality higher education at the lowest cost to students.
"Pennsylvania's workforce depends on the talented and well-educated graduates from PASSHE universities. Together with the state, we are making higher education more affordable and accessible, and strengthening the college-to-career pipeline of innovative thinkers and problem solvers, which benefits the students, their families and Pennsylvania's economy," he added.
In-state undergraduate tuition at Commonwealth University's Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, Mansfield and Clearfield locations will remain at $7,716 for a seventh year (2018-19 to 2024-25). If tuition had kept pace with inflation since 2018, it would be 25% higher today, or $9,645.
