Nathan Brinker Named Commonwealth University Student Trustee
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (12/05/2025) — Nathan Brinker has been appointed to the Commonwealth University Council of Trustees. A junior health and physical education and pre-athletic training double major from Lock Haven, Brinker will represent the Lock Haven campus as a student trustee.
Brinker is a student employee in the Parsons Union Building at CU-Lock Haven and is involved with several campus organizations including serving as president of the Full Gospel Fellowship Club, a member of the Student Auxiliary Services (SAS) Board and Student Government Board. In his position as student trustee, Brinker says he is interested in giving students a greater sense of connection across all Commonwealth University campuses.
"I believe I can be a voice of reason and understanding for both my campus and my peers," Brinker wrote in his trustee application. "I often hear students share thoughts, both positive and negative about their experiences, but many don't know how to express those ideas or where to direct them. I want to help change that."
The most significant extracurricular activity Brinker said he has been involved with during his time at Lock Haven has been serving on the SAS board.
"Through SAS, I have been involved in evaluating and making financial decisions that affect many demographics on campus," Brinker said. "It has helped me see how committed I can be to my peers, while also contributing to the future of the campus community. I'm very grateful that I have this opportunity to advocate for my peers and help promote their well being while also supporting the university's financial growth and sustainability."
Brett Everhart, Brinker's faculty advisor, praised his ambition taking on two degree programs, making him aware of the needs of not just one discipline, but two, and also noting that his programs have been in two different colleges and located in two different areas on campus.
"Nathan Brinker is the kind of student the CU council of trustees will appreciate having work with them as the student trustee," Everhart said. "He is inquisitive, continually asking questions and is able to think critically and out of the box to solve problems. He has the type of initiative as well as personality to help the trustees continue to make a positive impact in leading the university through challenging times and support the university and the student experience. He is a big part of our health and physical education program and I expect big things from Nathan in the future as he makes a difference in his career, community and society."
Brinker believes in the full college experience - not just obtaining a degree, but learning about themselves and growing as an individual, while taking advantage of the opportunities CU has to offer its students.
"To me, college should be more than just a four year degree, it should be a time for students to thrive in every part of their lives," Brinker said. "I believe that starts with building personal connections. When students feel valued, heard and respected, they are more likely to invest in their college experience and make the most of their time at the Lock Haven campus."
