Media Advisory: Commonwealth University Students to Share Experiences with Philadelphia Students
PA (11/21/2024) — More than 50 students from Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg will share their experiences with students at Simon Gratz Middle and High School on Friday, Nov. 22.
The university students will arrive at Simon Gratz Middle and High School, 1798 W. Hunting Park Ave., Philadelphia, at approximately 9:30 a.m.
At the school:
- CU students will participate in panel discussions and discuss their college experiences, broader issues of positive decision-making, and the pros and cons of pursuing a college education.
- CU students majoring in special education will shadow in classrooms focused on supporting students with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.
- CU students will complete volunteer projects in the middle school.
The CU students will remain in Philadelphia overnight.
On Saturday, Nov. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., they will put on the CU Cares program at Simon Gratz High School.
CU Cares is a partnership between CU-Bloomsburg students and Simon Gratz Middle and High School to host a community day for area residents. CU students will help distribute needed items to the community, such as baby supplies, fresh produce, school supplies and feminine hygiene products. Students will also distribute Thanksgiving dinners to help local residents have a healthy meal for the holiday. In addition, students will participate in beautification projects focused on the exterior and interior of Simon Gratz Middle and High School.
