Mansfield ranked among national leaders in social mobility, research

MANSFIELD, PA (09/19/2024) — Commonwealth University-Mansfield was ranked in the top 30 nationally in social mobility according to Washington Monthly's 2024 Bachelor's Colleges Ranking.

Since 2005, Washington Monthly has ranked liberal arts colleges based on their contribution to the public good in three broad categories: social mobility, research and promoting public service.

"The Mansfield campus of Commonwealth University has a long history of improving the trajectory of students' lives," said Bashar W. Hanna, CU president. "Our graduates - especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds - have significantly increased their earning power with a Mansfield degree. This has a significant, positive impact on their lives and their families' lives."

CU-Mansfield was tabbed 27 out of 223 schools on the list for social mobility.

Social mobility is the ability of individuals to move up or down the social and economic ladder, often influenced by their educational experiences. A college degree can serve as a pathway for students to improve their socioeconomic status through access to better job opportunities, increased earning potential and expanded networks.

Mansfield was also ranked 41out of the 223 schools in the nation for research. Overall, Mansfield landed in the top 50 nationally in the overall Bachelor's Colleges Ranking from Washington Monthly.
