Man of La Mancha Brings Hope, Imagination, and the Impossible Dream to the Mansfield

Mansfield, PA (02/25/2026) — The timeless and inspirational musical Man of La Mancha will be brought to life by Commonwealth University's Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance at Mansfield from March 5 to 8.

Inspired by Miguel de Cervantes' Don Quixote, with book by Dale Wasserman, music by Mitch Leigh, and lyrics by Joe Darion, Man of La Mancha tells the unforgettable story of an aging poet who, imprisoned during the Spanish Inquisition, transforms his grim surroundings into a world of chivalry, courage, and impossible dreams. Through the iconic anthem "The Impossible Dream," the musical celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of hope.

"This show reminds us that idealism and compassion matter-especially in difficult times," said Peter Davis, director of the production. "Man of La Mancha challenges audiences to ask not whether dreams are realistic, but whether they are worth pursuing."

The production features a cast, crew, and orchestra of over 50 students and alumni. Dr. Todd Ranney serves as music director and orchestra conductor.

First premiering on Broadway in 1965, Man of La Mancha has become one of the most beloved musicals of all time, earning five Tony Awards (including Best Musical) and international acclaim. Its message of dignity, perseverance, and the courage to dream continues to resonate with audiences across generations.

Performances will be held in Straughn Hall on the CU-Mansfield campus. Tickets are available at mansfield.booktix.com or at the door one hour before the performance. Performances will be Thursday, March 5, through Saturday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, March 8, at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, $12 for seniors and high school students, $8 for children 12 and under, and free for Commonwealth University students with a valid I.D. All seats are $10 for the Thursday, March 5, performance.
