Lock Haven Phone-A-Thon Students Build Alumni Connections As Part of 10th Anniversary of All In Day of Giving

Lock Haven, PA (04/04/2025) — As the countdown to the Lock Haven University Foundation's (LHUF) 10th Anniversary of its All In Day of Giving-slated for 10 a.m. to 10 a.m. on April 10-11-revs up, Lock Haven students are sharing their school spirit with alumni as part of the LHUF's biannual Phone-A-Thon campaign.

Phone-A-Thon is a tradition that connects Lock Haven students and student-athletes with alumni who graduated from the same major or played collegiately for the same Bald Eagle athletics program. It's an opportunity for students to share updates from campus, make alumni connections, and advocate for philanthropic support that has a major impact on student success at The Haven.

"The idea behind Phone-A-Thon is to create a personalized touchpoint between students, alumni, and donors," said Katelynn Hanna, Director of Annual Giving. "Getting gifts by making calls is certainly a great thing, but Phone-A-thon is about so much more. It allows donors and alumni to connect with students in a personalized way."

Throughout two six-week campaigns-one in the fall and one during the spring semester-students can share their Haven experiences with alumni. Leading up to this year's 10th Anniversary All In Celebration, athletics programs like Lock Haven football, softball, baseball, field hockey, cheerleading, and others have all taken turns making calls to engage with alumni who once experienced the journeys students are currently enjoying.

The energy in the room is electric, especially when a donation comes through. Faces light up with joy as students celebrate every contribution, knowing that each dollar raised helps provide essential resources for their teams, from new equipment to travel expenses and training opportunities.

One particularly moving moment occurred when a student caller connected with a scholarship donor who had created a fund in memory of their late son, a former Lock Haven student.

"The donor shared the story of their son, who he was, his time here at Lock Haven, and the reason they decided to create a scholarship in his name," said Hanna. "The student was so touched and had no idea of the story behind the scholarship. Meaningful connections like that are what Phone-A-Thon is all about."

Each call to alumni is more than just a solicitation, it's a conversation and a connection between two proud Bald Eagles. During The Haven's 24-hour All In Day of Giving-the LHUF's largest annual fundraiser-supporters, friends, and alumni come together to provide as much philanthropic support as possible to ensure students have the best academic and athletic experience possible. Phone-A-Thon is an essential campaign leading up to All In, as it helps share information and create excitement among alumni who might not be aware of just how much they can make an impact in students' lives by providing support.

As more students pick up the phone to reach out to alumni, the excitement and impact of donor support continue to grow. With each conversation, each donation made, and each shared memory, the bond between past and present Bald Eagles strengthens, ensuring Lock Haven's proud legacy carries on boldly into the future.
