Harvard Economists to Speak for CU-Bloomsburg Lecture Series Nov. 1 and 2
Bloomsburg, PA (10/25/2023) — Harvard University economists Drs. John Campbell and David Laibson will speak for Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg's Economic Lecture Series on Wednesday, Nov. 1, and Thursday, Nov. 2.
Campbell's webinar presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 2 p.m. will be on "Consumer Financial Protection." Laibson's talk on Thursday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m. at Haas Center of Performing Arts, Mitrani Hall will be about "Self-Control, Present Bias, and Behavior Change."

Campbell is the Morton L. and Carole S. Olshan Professor of Economics at Harvard University. Since joining Harvard in 1994, he has published over 100 articles on various aspects of finance and macroeconomics, including fixed-income securities, equity valuation, portfolio choice, and household finance.
His books include "Financial Decisions and Markets: A Course in Asset Pricing" (Princeton University Press 2018), "The Squam Lake Report: Fixing the Financial System" (with the Squam Lake Group of financial economists, PUP 2010), "Strategic Asset Allocation: Portfolio Choice for Long-Term Investors" (with Luis Viceira, Oxford University Press 2002), and "The Econometrics of Financial Markets" (with Andrew Lo and Craig MacKinlay, PUP 1997).
Laibson is the Robert I. Goldman Professor of Economics and a Faculty Dean of Lowell House. He leads Harvard University's Foundations of Human Behavior Initiative. His research focuses on behavioral economics, with emphasis on self-regulation, behavior change, and household finance.
Laibson is a member of the National Bureau of Economic Research, where he directs the National Institute of Aging Roybal Center for Behavior Change in Health and Savings. He serves on Harvard's Pension Investment Committee and the Consumer Finance Institute of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. He is a two-time recipient of the TIAA-CREF Paul A. Samuelson Award for Outstanding Scholarly Writing on Lifelong Financial Security.
In the spring semester, Dr. Lars Hansen, a Nobel Prize-winning economist from the University of Chicago, will speak on "Uncertainty Spillovers for Markets and Policy" on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at 2 p.m. in Haas Center of Performing Arts, Mitrani Hall.
