CU-Mansfield faculty member publishes article, presents 2 papers

MANSFIELD, PA (05/14/2024) — Dr. Justin N. Crowl, associate professor of criminal justice at Commonwealth University-Mansfield and assistant chair of the Department of Anthropology, Criminal Justice and Sociology, published the article, "The Classroom Reimagined: Setting the Tone, Artificial Intelligence and Icebreaker Strategies" in the Journal of Criminal Justice Education. The article examines artificial intelligence, a rapidly changing technology that's been transforming education, and provides pedagogical recommendations for the first week of class and the use of artificial intelligence and AI-enhanced icebreakers in the classroom.

Crowl also gave two paper presentations at the annual Pennsylvania Criminal Justice Educators (PACJE) Conference in April at Penn State Altoona. Entitled "Developing Police-Community Partnerships: Does Community Policing Reduce Crime and Enhance Police Legitimacy and Job Satisfaction?" the first paper assessed the impact of community policing on job satisfaction, police legitimacy, crime reduction and fear of crime.

The second paper, "The Effect of Lifestyle Choices, Criminal Victimization and Attitudes Toward the Police on Fear of Crime," examined the effect of lifestyle choices, victimization and views of the police on student fear of crime, utilizing lifestyle exposure theory as a guide.
