CU-Lock Haven university police team up with PSP once again for helicopter landing and presentation on campus
PA (10/05/2026) — Students, faculty, staff and community members gathered at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven on Thursday, Oct. 1, for the return of a Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) helicopter and aviation presentation. Hosted in coordination with Lock Haven University Police, the event provided attendees with an up-close look at the role of the PSP Aviation Patrol Unit in law enforcement and public safety.
The event was coordinated by Ashton Peters, CU-Lock Haven community service officer and senior criminal justice student, who first brought the initiative to campus in March 2025 as an opportunity to strengthen connections between law enforcement, students and the surrounding community.
Attendees had the opportunity to see the PSP helicopter up close and learn more about the capabilities of state police air support.
"It was special to be able to bring the helicopter back to campus again during my senior year," Peters said. "This started as an idea to give students and the community an opportunity to see a side of law enforcement they don't always get to experience up close. Being able to coordinate it again before I graduate was a nice way to close that chapter."
The helicopter was piloted by Cpl. Kyle Schaad of the Pennsylvania State Police, who also participated in the original CU-Lock Haven helicopter presentation. Following the helicopter's arrival in the upper parking lot behind Zimmerli Gymnasium, Schaad provided attendees with an educational presentation highlighting the aircraft, its capabilities and the role aviation plays in supporting law enforcement operations across Pennsylvania.
Attendees were able to interact with Schaad, ask questions and get an up-close look at the aircraft.
Citizens Hose Company No. 5 assisted University Police with preparations for the event, including helping prepare the landing area ahead of the helicopter's arrival.
