CU-Lock Haven psychology major participates in summer internship with Clinton County Government

LOCK HAVEN, PA (08/30/2024) — Anna Collins, a senior psychology major at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven, completed a summer internship with the Clinton County Commissioners gaining practical experience in human resources and local government operations.

Through her internship, Collins, of Mill Hall, was eager to develop her communication skills, both written and verbal, and to enhance her proficiency with computer programs like Excel and the Microsoft Office suite. Additionally, she hoped to improve her organizational skills, time management and understanding of the procedures for maintaining confidentiality in sensitive situations.

Collins also had the opportunity to work closely with Commissioner Harding on various projects. "These projects provided insights into the complexities of county government and community issues," Collins said, who assisted in planning employee recognition events, giving her practical experience in event management and employee engagement strategies. Accompanying Harding to meetings allowed her to see firsthand the decision-making processes and the impacts of county government on the community.

Collins helped with several significant projects, integrally involved in planning and executing community events. "The experience surpassed my expectations in terms of the responsibility and trust placed in me as an intern," she said, adding the supportive and collaborative environment within the county office was a pleasant surprise.

At CU-Lock Haven, Collins is an active member of the women's lacrosse team and serves as the vice president of the Student Veterans Alliance. Her career aspirations lie in human resources, focusing on community development and employee engagement, or in data analysis.
