CU-Lock Haven Health Science Club students participate in STEAM night with Penns Valley students

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (04/23/2026) — Four first-year Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Health Science Club members participated in the annual Penns Valley Area School District STEAM Night. The students, Ella Lawton, of Troy; Natalie Dunworth, of Wilcox; Brooklynn Price, of Mahaffey; and Abby Leto, of Kutztown facilitated an activity at the Penns Valley Elementary and Intermediate School (PVEI) for students in grades K through six and their families.

STEAM nights at Penns Valley allow future innovators to explore the worlds of science, technology, engineering, art and math. PVEI students participated in various activities ranging from building and engineering, to interactive science experiments and problem-solving activities.

The CU-Lock Haven students helped participants better understand the functions of blood and why there are different blood types. Their activity also included a "crime scene" mystery, where participants used blood typing to identify individuals responsible for stealing various items from around the school. The participants used synthetic blood and corresponding antibodies to identify the "perpetrators" and to learn more about blood types.
