CU-Lock Haven Criminal Justice Club members visit Municipal Police Academy at CU-Mansfield
LOCK HAVEN, PA (12/08/2023) — This fall, members of the Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Criminal Justice Club visited the Act 120 Municipal Police Academy at the CU-Mansfield campus. The students, along with Dr. Michael J. McSkimming, club co-advisor, were greeted by instructors of the academy and then given a PowerPoint presentation detailing the program standards, requirements and schedule.
After the presentation students were introduced to the current class, including 17 cadets, two of which are recent spring 2023 Lock Haven graduates. The cadets provided students with tips and suggestions for those interested in applying to the academy. The students were then able to ask the cadets and instructors questions.
"This trip was important for providing an opportunity for students to interact and experience even just a small component of academy life, which is a significant contribution to their educational experience," McSkimming said.
The purpose of this trip was to learn and familiarize students with what goes into becoming a municipal police officer. Students were able to hear from others that what they are learning at Lock Haven will be needed to succeed in their future careers.
"I really enjoyed learning about what the Act 120 Academy has to offer for students and seeing it all connect back to classes I have taken at Lock Haven," said Audra Newmeyer, Criminal Justice Club president. "The program goes above and beyond PA's standards for municipal officers and I am excited to be able to share this program with those who are interested in going into that field."
