CU-Lock Haven athletic training student completes internship with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center
LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (12/19/2025) — Dane Sevinsky, of Coudersport, athletic training graduate student at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven, completed an internship with University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Orthopedics and Sports Medicine of Lock Haven and Williamsport.
During his internship, Sevinsky honed his clinical skills in orthopedic medicine, including orthopedic physical assessment and diagnosis, musculoskeletal imaging interpretation, treatment and rehabilitation, patient education and interdisciplinary cooperation.
In the clinic, Sevinsky worked side-by-side with surgeons, physician associates and other athletic trainers to deliver high-quality orthopedic care. In the operating room, he was able to observe and learn about multiple orthopedic surgical techniques, including shoulder labrum and rotator cuff repairs, arthroplasty, arthrotomies, meniscectomy and ACL reconstruction.
Sevinsky used musculoskeletal imaging techniques such as X-ray, MRI and CT scan, and learned how to interpret these images and formulate a diagnosis from them.
"I knew that if I became an orthopedic surgeon in the future, I would need to know how to interpret and formulate a diagnosis from X-rays, MRIs and CT scans," Sevinsky said. "I didn't expect to have the opportunity to learn how to do it this early in my career. It helps me to appreciate the complexity of human anatomy more and how it connects and interacts with itself. I am now more determined to be an athletic trainer, and eventually an orthopedic surgeon than I have ever been. I sincerely wouldn't have traded this experience for anything."
