CU-Bloomsburg Wrestling Club President Dennis Siegmann '68 contributes $30,000 to Athletic Scholarships

Bloomsburg, PA (03/14/2025) — The Bloomsburg University Foundation and Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg (CU-Bloomsburg) are shining the spotlight on BU Alumnus and lifelong wrestler Dennis Siegmann for his recent contribution to Bloomsburg Wrestling, donating over $30,000 in scholarship funding to students in need.

With this gift, The Campaign for Bloomsburg: It Starts With Us is brought one step closer to its $100 million goal, and Bloomsburg Wrestling is moving towards its own goal of raising $500,000.

Alongside the return of Coach John Stutzman, contributions from community members and alumni are helping to reinvigorate Bloomsburg Wrestling.

After graduating, Siegmann immediately began working in education and went on to serve in a variety of coaching and administrative positions throughout his career. He is one of many alumni who wrestled for legendary Bloomsburg Wrestling coach Russ Houk, and in light of recent efforts to energize the program once again, Siegmann has made strides to become involved with philanthropy and athletics at his alma mater.

"I owe my career and what I've done in my life to my experience there - I always look back and say wrestling at Bloomsburg is where it all started," said Siegmann. "It's always been a place that when I come here I feel welcome, and I feel like I need to give back for what they gave to me."

As President of the Husky Elite Wrestling Club (HEWC), Siegmann has helped to secure additional fundraising for the wrestling team - providing support for things that scholarships can't cover, like additional weight benches, travel expenses, and even a second coach paid for by the HEWC.

"As a Division I team, Bloomsburg wrestling can offer up to 9.9 scholarships, but currently the Huskies offer around 3.6," said CU-Bloomsburg Director of Athletics, Dr. Michael McFarland. "Gifts from donors like Dennis are vital to growing our scholarship offerings, empowering more student-athletes to pursue their dreams, and strengthening our program's competitive edge."

Siegmann himself has set up multiple scholarships, one being the Dennis R. Siegmann Family Wrestling Scholarship for Bloomsburg wrestling students, and one endowed scholarship for wrestling and football student-athletes in Delta Omega Chi (DOC). His continued commitment to Bloomsburg Athletics is greatly appreciated and is a testament to the value of an organized and passionate network of supporters.

"Wrestlers are a different breed," Siegmann added. "How do we get people to believe in Bloomsburg, how do we get to that next level? If your interest is in making us a more competitive wrestling program, then we need your scholarship dollars and your excitement to get us there."

In addition to boosting his scholarship support, Siegmann is stepping up with a $1,000 challenge for CU-Bloomsburg's All In Day of Giving-a dynamic 24-hour fundraising event that kicks off on Thursday, April 10, at 10 a.m. His challenge is simple but powerful: if Bloomsburg Wrestling secures just 20 donors during the event, his $1,000 gift will unlock, amplifying the impact by providing much needed additional funds for Husky wrestlers.
