CU-Bloomsburg to Host International Guitar Night

BLOOMSBURG, PA (02/23/2024) — Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg will host "International Guitar Night" on Friday, March 1, at 7:30 p.m. in Carver Hall, K.S. Gross Auditorium. Tickets and information are available at www.bloomu.edu/arts-in-bloom.

The performance, part of the Arts in Bloom series, will feature four virtuoso guitarists.

Italian guitarist Luca Stricagnoli's solo guitar songs have garnered more than 100 million views on YouTube. He also performs on a triple-neck guitar he designed.

Vietnamese classical guitarist Thu Le was the youngest student ever in Hanoi's National Conservatory at the age of 7. Since then, she's won multiple awards and toured the world. The composer Sergio Assad wrote the song, "Li l blend," to honor her departed father.

Brazilian composer and guitarist Marco Pereira is a brilliant soloist who has collaborated with top Brazilian singers including the late Gal Costa. He combines jazz, Latin-American, and Brazilian influences, to considerable acclaim.

Australian blues slide guitarist and singer Minnie Marks has been praised by Michael Jackson's guitarist, Jennifer Batten, who calls Marks "badass." She's a one-woman band, pushing musical limits with a Goldtop guitar and a Foot Drum. This tour is her North American debut.

Upcoming shows in the Arts in Bloom series include:

Rubberband: Second Chances - Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m., Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Choreographer Victor Quijada's particularly intimate new work, Second Chances, is inspired by his experience in Los Angeles as a first-generation Mexican-American. Returning to the stage as a performer, Victor explores themes of identity and homeland. The show includes excerpts from Trenzado, which features a soundtrack by composer and DJ Jasper Gahunia, sampling traditional Mexican norteno music. This repertory program also includes Commissions Suite, a reconstruction of two works originally choreographed by Quijada for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (Physikal Linguistiks) and Scottish Dance Theater (Second Coming). A soundtrack by Jasper Gahunia provides the landscape as seven performers navigate the chaos.

iLuminate - Sunday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. iLuminate has been a household name since they were called "The Best New Act in America!" during a run on America's Got Talent in 2011. iLuminate is a company based on the fusion of technology and dance.
