CU-Bloomsburg to Host Dance Show 'Second Chances'

PA (03/18/2024) — Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg will host Rubberband Dance Company's "Second Chances" on Saturday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m., in Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. Tickets and information are available at www.bloomu.edu/arts-in-bloom.

A particularly intimate new work by choreographer Victor Quijada, "Second Chances," is inspired by his experience in Los Angeles as a first-generation Mexican-American. Returning to the stage as a performer, Quijada explores themes of identity and homeland.

The show includes excerpts from Trenzado, which features a soundtrack by composer and DJ Jasper Gahunia that samples traditional Mexican norteno music. This repertory program also includes Commissions Suite, a reconstruction of two works originally choreographed by Quijada for Hubbard Street Dance Chicago (Physikal Linguistiks) and Scottish Dance Theater (Second Coming). A soundtrack by Jasper Gahunia provides the landscape as seven performers navigate the chaos.

The final show in this Arts in Bloom season is:

iLuminate - Sunday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., Haas Center for the Arts, Mitrani Hall. iLuminate has been a household name since they were called "The Best New Act in America!" during a run on America's Got Talent in 2011. iLuminate is a company based on the fusion of technology and dance.
