Commonwealth University Nutrition and Dietetics Program Accredited; Now Available on All Campuses

PA (10/03/2025) — Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania's Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics Program has had its full accreditation continued by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The program is now available on all of Commonwealth University's campuses, Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield.

Historically, the Nutrition and Dietetics Program and accreditation status was granted to the Mansfield campus, which has held the accreditation status since 1973.

"Nutrition plays a crucial role in preventing and managing many health issues," said program director Mary S. Feeney. "Professionals in this field work in diverse settings, including hospitals, schools, public health agencies, and private practice, to help individuals and communities lead healthier lives through proper nutrition."

The program has two concentrations: Dietetics, which prepares students for a variety of careers, and Sports Nutrition, which prepares students to work in fitness and sports. A Nutrition minor is also offered.

"Dr. Feeney's work over the past three years has ensured that the Nutrition and Dietetics programs are now available to all CU students regardless of campus," said Michelle Kiec, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs. "The expansion will enable more students to become nutrition and dietetics professionals."

ACEND's accreditation decision was based on a peer review of the self-study report, site visit report, and program response to the site visit report, demonstrating that the program complies with ACEND Accreditation Standards. The program is also accredited to offer 50% or more of coursework through distance education.
