Commonwealth University-Lock Haven Alpha Sigma Tau chapter honored with 5 national awards

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (07/14/2026) — Alpha Sigma Tau's Zeta Chapter at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven was recently recognized by the National Organization for demonstrating excellence within the 2024-26 biennium. Awards were announced at Alpha Sigma Tau's 46th National Convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in June.

The Zeta Chapter was recognized with the Elizabeth Wilson Operational Excellence Award, the Growth Excellence Award, the Academic Programming Excellence Award, the Alumnae Engagement Excellence Award and the Health and Safety Excellence Award.

The Elizabeth Wilson Operational Excellence Award is presented to chapters demonstrating a commitment to chapter management and outstanding operational performance. The Growth Excellence Award is presented to chapters exhibiting a culture of excellence and commitment to membership recruitment. The Academic Programming Excellence Award is presented to chapters achieving individual or chapter academic success through academic programming efforts. The Alumnae Engagement Excellence Award is presented to chapters demonstrating excellence in alumnae programming, communications and connections. The Health and Safety Excellence Award is presented to chapters exhibiting an outstanding commitment to risk prevention, education and management.

The Zeta Chapter was the only collegiate chapter to receive the Academic Programming Excellence Award during the 46th National Convention. Page Smith, chapter president and Mia Morsa, vice president of member development were present to accept the award. Amy DuPree Brooks, chapter advisor was also in attendance.

Additionally, chapter member Emily Smeal was elected by the Convention body to serve as national vice president-collegian on the 2026-28 National Council. The National Council leads the sorority in developing and meeting strategic initiatives. It consists of one
president and five vice presidents, one of whom must be a collegian at the time of election.

The Zeta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau was established at CU-Lock Haven in 1921. Since then, more than 1,000 women have been initiated into the Zeta Chapter of Alpha Sigma Tau. Today, the chapter continues to provide women at CU-Lock Haven with a community of belonging, personal and professional development opportunities and an outlet to contribute to the local Lock Haven community.
