Commonwealth University Leadership Challenge Surpasses Goal to Support Student Retention and Emergency Scholarships

PA (05/13/2025) — During this year's All In Day of Giving, held April 10-11, Commonwealth University (CU) alumni in leadership roles came together to support one of the most critical priorities facing students today: staying enrolled and on track to graduate.

The President's Cabinet Leadership Challenge called on alumni leaders from Bloomsburg, Lock Haven, and Mansfield to come together to make a difference. The goal was to inspire 25 graduates from each campus who hold positions of leadership in their industries-75 total-to contribute to student retention and emergency scholarship funds.

Thanks to overwhelming support, not only was the goal met-it was exceeded. More than 135 donors made contributions totaling over $27,500 to support students across all three campuses. Once the original goal of 75 donors was reached, it unlocked an additional $7,500 in funding provided by the president's cabinet and leadership team.

"This challenge demonstrates the power of collective leadership," said CU president Bashar Hanna. "I'm deeply grateful to every donor who participated, including our dedicated cabinet members who personally contributed to inspire others. Together, we are providing immediate resources to help our students overcome barriers and stay on the path to success."

The funds raised will go directly to support emergency scholarships and student retention funds-critical areas dedicated to helping CU students enroll and continue pursuing their educational goals. It is also one of the key fundraising priorities of The Campaign for Bloomsburg: It Starts With Us.

By focusing on these high-impact needs, the challenge helped shine a light on the importance of meeting students where they are and ensuring they have the resources they need-no matter the obstacles.

This show of support from alumni leaders underscores a growing culture of philanthropy across Commonwealth University's campuses and a shared commitment to empowering students to succeed.
