Commonwealth University honors student teachers during induction and pinning ceremonies
PA (12/18/2025) — Commonwealth University recently honored its student teachers during Student Teacher Induction and Pinning Ceremonies held on each campus recognizing the successful completion of student teaching placements and celebrated the hard work, dedication and commitment of the university's future educators.
Dr. Jennifer Gurski, director of the Office of Teacher Preparation, Clinical Practice and Certification, opened each ceremony by welcoming university leadership, faculty, staff, guest speakers, student teachers and their families. Additional remarks were shared by Dr. Ann Larson, dean and professor of the College of Arts, Humanities, Education and Social Sciences.
Dr. Michelle Kiec, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, spoke at the Bloomsburg and Lock Haven ceremonies and Dr. Stephen Lee, vice president for enrollment management and student affairs and Lock Haven campus administrator offered remarks at the Lock Haven ceremony.
Keynote speakers included: Dr. Joseph Rasmus, superintendent of Millville Area School District at CU-Bloomsburg's ceremony; Dr. Laura Osenbach, assistant superintendent of Jersey Shore Area School District at CU-Lock Haven's ceremony; and Erick Cummings, superintendent of Towanda Area School District and Nicole Cummings, cooperating teacher WL Miller at Southern Tioga School District at CU-Mansfield's ceremony.
Kelly Raudabaugh, assistant director of the Office of Teacher Preparation, Clinical Practice and Certification, recognized each of the teacher candidates during all three ceremonies. Following the acknowledgements, each student teacher was presented with a Circle of Children lapel pin, symbolizing four core values in the continuous cycle of teaching and learning: cooperation, togetherness, unity and acceptance.
