Commonwealth University-Clearfield to host March Lifelong Learning Institute Programs

CLEARFIELD, PA (03/04/2024) — Commonwealth University-Clearfield and the Mature Resources Area Agency on Aging will host two Lifelong Learning Institute programs during the month of March.

The program, The Sandy Lick Mountain Dulcimer Players, will be held from Tuesday, March 12, from 1-2:30 p.m. in the Academic Building room A131. This presentation will feature Ginny Schott and the Sandy Lick Mountain Dulcimer Players. One of only two instruments to originate in North America (the other being the 5-string banjo), the mountain dulcimer will be featured during this program of music, sing-a-longs and short videos. The long, stringed instrument, played from a lap position, has provided a rich and varied musical voice for folk, gospel and many other styles of music for more than a century. Those attending the program will learn some of the dulcimer's history and be invited to try the mountain dulcimer for themselves, using several practice instruments.

On Tuesday, March 26, there will be a tour of DiamondBack Covers from 1-2:30 p.m. at 354 Enterprise Dr., Philipsburg. A welcome will be given by Sarah Klawinski, recruiting and onboarding manager. DiamondBack Covers was founded in 2003 by Matt Chverchko and Ethan Wendle when Chverchko built a secure truck bed cover. Wendle, who shared an entrepreneurship class with Chverchko at Penn State, became partners and began their operation in a trailer in State College. Today, DiamondBack employs a dedicated and growing team of 158 employees at its state-of-the-art manufacturing facility.

To sign up for an upcoming session, call 814-765-2696, or for more information, visit www.ccaaa.net and choose "classes" then "Lifelong Learning Institute." With ideas for a future session, call the Clearfield campus office at 814-765-0559.
