Commonwealth University AMA members gain broader marketing perspective from New Orleans conference

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (06/02/2025) — Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg's American Marketing Association student chapter capped its spring with a trip to the International Collegiate Conference in New Orleans, where they were among future marketing and communication professionals discussing business plans, networking and collaborating on marketing strategies.

"This had an impact on my perspective on the marketing industry because I was able to connect with so many people who had the same interest as me," said Leda Roldan, a junior marketing major. "The sessions and workshops helped us gain a better insight into the world of marketing."

Some of the workshops, according to Roldan, included how to use different marketing platforms like Canva. The AMA members were also able to talk with professionals to boost confidence while in interviews.

Alexis Urbassik, a sophomore professional sales and marketing major, said they received guidance on professionalism and gained valuable experience that can be applied to their future careers.

"I just realized how big of a network it was," Urbassik said. "It was interesting to see the amount of people who are interested in marketing, but not necessarily in the same areas. Some people might be into sports marketing, while others are into industrial marketing. It really broadens the horizons on different areas of marketing that someone can focus on."

According to Erin Molloy, a senior communication studies major, the digital marketing competition proved to be the most relevant to her current studies. The members created a landing page and ads for a certain company. She was engaged by this and would like to continue with the designing aspect of marketing in the future.

The ICC is a pivotal experience for marketing students seeking to leave their mark on the industry. From this event, Urbassik says Bloomsburg's AMA chapter will continue to solidify its role among student organizations focused on marketing innovation, leadership, and professional development.
