Lock Haven University Foundation and Alumni Association volunteer boards announce newly-elected leadership

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (07/09/2026) — The Lock Haven University Foundation (LHUF) and Lock Haven Alumni Association (LHAA) have announced newly elected volunteer leadership for their respective boards of directors, effective July 1, marking the start of the 2026-27 fiscal year.

Leading the LHUF board of directors is Don Calcagni '98, who assumes the role of chair. A dedicated member of the foundation board and longtime supporter of Commonwealth University-Lock Haven, Calcagni succeeds Jennifer Riter '96, who served as chair since July 1, 2024.

"It is an honor to serve as chair of the Lock Haven University Foundation board of directors," Calcagni said. "The foundation plays a vital role in creating opportunities for students and strengthening the future of Commonwealth University-Lock Haven. I look forward to working alongside my fellow board members, university leadership and our generous alumni and friends to continue advancing our mission and expanding the impact of philanthropy across campus."

Ashley Koser, LHUF executive director, praised Riter's leadership while welcoming the board's incoming officers.

"Jen's leadership, vision and unwavering commitment to Lock Haven have helped strengthen LHUF and position us for continued success," Koser said. "On behalf of the entire foundation team, I want to sincerely thank her for the countless hours she has devoted to advancing opportunities for our students.

"We are equally excited to welcome Don as board chair and Ed (Shifflett) as vice chair," she added. "Both bring tremendous passion for The Haven, valuable professional expertise and a deep commitment to ensuring future generations of students have access to the life-changing opportunities made possible through philanthropy."

Key areas of focus for the upcoming year include amending and updating LHUF's strategic plan, generating and providing as many dollars and resources as possible for CU-Lock Haven students and the implementation and execution of initiatives aimed at enhancing student success at The Haven.

The foundation board is comprised of alumni, community leaders and business professionals who provide strategic guidance and oversight in support of the university's philanthropic priorities. The board's work is carried out through three standing committees: advancement, finance and governance.

Joining Calcagni in newly-elected executive leadership roles are Ed Shifflett '96, vice chair; Nicholas Subich '17, treasurer; Joe Koehler '84, secretary; and Ann DelCollo '89, governance chair. Returning committee leadership includes Frank Condino '72, advancement chair; and Stan Allen '87, finance chair.
The Lock Haven Alumni Association board of directors also announced new leadership effective July 1.

George Way '78 has been elected president of the Alumni Association board, succeeding John Newcomer '84, who has served as president since 2024.

"I am grateful to have been given the opportunity, privilege and awesome responsibility to lead the Lock Haven Alumni Association in the role of president," said Way. "My intention and mission is not only to maintain the positive momentum of my predecessors, but to continue building deep alumni connections and support for current and future Bald Eagle students, staff and programs.

"I'm very excited and blessed to have such a fantastic group of alumni to work with," he added. "This group of individuals who make up our board have demonstrated a passion and commitment to serve CU-Lock Haven in so many capacities. I look forward to collaborating with them while leaning into their unique skill sets and talents."

Ashley Conrad, director of alumni and employer engagement, expressed appreciation for Newcomer's leadership and welcomed the board's new officers.

"John has been a dedicated advocate for our student and alumni communities, providing thoughtful leadership and guidance throughout his tenure as president," Conrad said. "We are grateful for his service and the many contributions he has made to strengthen alumni engagement and alumni pride.

"We are excited to welcome George and Philip (Burlingame) into their new leadership roles and look forward to working alongside them as we continue creating meaningful opportunities for alumni to connect with one another, supporting students and remaining engaged with The Haven," she added.

Joining Way in elected leadership positions are Philip Burlingame '78, vice president; Dirk Weaver '94, treasurer; and Bryan Stamm '07, secretary.

The Alumni Association board consists of 19 alumni representing multiple generations of Bald Eagles. Working in partnership with advancement, alumni and professional engagement staff, board members support alumni outreach, volunteerism, networking opportunities, student engagement initiatives and fundraising efforts through four committees: legacy, relationships and campus events, professional engagement and golf.

Committee leadership for 2026-27 includes Paul Brennan '01, legacy committee chair; Stamm, professional engagement committee chair; Michele Charmello '91, relationships and campus events committee chair; and Lucio Perez '12 and Fritz Sevrain '92, golf committee co-chairs.

The board also welcomes three new members beginning their terms on July 1: Randi Egan '79, Julie McGovern '78 and Christina Onuskanich '02, while extending its sincere appreciation to outgoing member, Terri Koehler '85, for her years of dedicated service.

As the Alumni Association begins a new fiscal year, the board remains focused on strengthening engagement and expanding opportunities for alumni involvement. Key priorities include building board cohesion and community, defining member roles and an engagement roadmap, strengthening the partnership between the university and the board and adopting an Advocate, Ambassador and Asker (AAA) framework aligned with the Advancement and Professional Engagement Strategic Plan.

Dr. Jeff Osgood, president of Commonwealth University, applauded the dedication of both volunteer boards and the leadership they provide in support of students across the university.

"Our Foundation and Alumni Association board members represent the very best of the Lock Haven community," Osgood said. "Their dedication, generosity and willingness to serve make a profound difference in the lives of our students and the future of our institution. I am grateful for the time, talent and expertise they are sharing with us, and I congratulate Don, Ed, George and Philip on their new leadership roles. I look forward to working alongside them as we create new opportunities for student success and advance the mission of CU-Lock Haven."
