Bloomsburg Alumni Association to Honor Four

Bloomsburg, PA (04/21/2026) — The Bloomsburg Alumni Association will honor four alumni on Saturday, May 2, in the Kehr Union Ballroom on the Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg campus.

Nominees are submitted for consideration by peers and colleagues, and are evaluated by a committee of the Alumni Board of Directors.

"The Bloomsburg Alumni Awards recognize fellow Huskies who have achieved significant career accomplishments, demonstrated outstanding service to Bloomsburg, or contribute in a meaningful way in their community," explained Rachel Melnick '03, chair of the Bloomsburg Alumni Association Awards Committee. "The annual Alumni Awards dinner provides an opportunity for us to come together and celebrate these accomplished alumni."

During the celebration, the alumni association will recognize alumni who have engaged with the university through volunteerism and philanthropy to support student success in the past year. In addition to those 327 alumni who have been named with Grimes Loyalty recognition for the late Richard E. Grimes '49, the Bloomsburg Alumni Association will also award the following:

The Distinguished Service Award recognizes alumni who have significant accomplishments in their profession, outstanding service to the university and/or the alumni association, and contributions to humanity. Joseph Geiger '74, President and CEO, retired, First Nonprofit Foundation, and Stacie Moore '92, VP of People and Culture, ChartSpan Medical Technologies, are the 2026 recipients of the Distinguished Service Award.

Geiger's career spanned more than 55 years in the fields of education, human resources, nonprofit, and association management. Geiger began his career as a Social Studies teacher at Central Columbia High School before moving into non-profit leadership as the CEO of the Bloomsburg YMCA and building a successful career in non-profit leadership. Geiger currently serves on boards for The Lincoln Institute, First Nonprofit Unemployment Benefits, and the National Wrestling Coaches Association. He has also been inducted into the Pennsylvania Association of Nonprofit Organizations Emeritus Society and received the Executive Director of the Year from Eastern University in 2007.

Moore is a distinguished human resources executive with more than 30 years of experience advancing the HR profession through strategic leadership, operational excellence, and an unwavering commitment to people-centered practices. A 1992 alumna, Moore is widely recognized for transforming compliance into a strategic advantage, strengthening leadership capability, and building inclusive, high-performing cultures.

The Maroon and Gold Excellence Award recognizes alumni who have graduated within the past 15 years, have met one or more criteria for the Distinguished Service Award, and have demonstrated outstanding potential for further contributions. Nicholas Wilson '14 is the 2026 recipient.

Wilson has been employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections for over 10 years, starting as a corrections officer, moving on to corrections counselor, unit manager, and was recently appointed team leader. Wilson has been a member of the hostage negotiation team for 10 years, and is currently a member of the Wyoming Valley West School Board and the West Side Career and Technical Center board, as well as West Side Little League and the Forty Fort Lions Club.

In addition, the association will honor William T. Derricott Volunteer of the Year, William Bent '83. Bent is a managing member of New Day Senior Living Management, LLC. Bent is an accomplished keynote speaker, author, and executive coach who has made it his mission to help companies grow and flourish and help people be their best on all levels. Bent is an active board of directors member with the Bloomsburg University Foundation and has volunteered with the Zeigler College of Business Institute for Professional Development (ZIPD) Conference. Bent is the creator and financial supporter of the William '83 and Elizabeth Bent Leadership Boot Camp at CU-Bloomsburg.

The meaningful and profound dedication they demonstrate, not only to their alma mater, but also to their communities and professions, is what being a Husky is all about," said Dr. Lynda Michaels, Associate Vice President for Alumni & Professional Engagement. "Congratulations to Joseph, Stacie, Nicholas, and William as we celebrate your outstanding accomplishments and admire your success."
